Imagine that 100 shareware/commercial applications are developed during the year. How much money are you ready to invest in new usefull applications for eComStation?
What is the purpose of this poll? It allow see:
- You can see how users value the software
- You can see how much euro users assigned for OS/2 in their pockets
- More optimistic users (those which are ready invest much miney) push other to invest more
- Those, who never purchase applications, can see that other users do this
Some conclusions:
- The major part of users is ready invest into software for eComStation
- 3/4 of users are ready invest 50 .. 300 EURO. (Let's accept that small shareware application costs 15 EURO, expensive - 50 EURO, as you can see users are ready purchase 3 .. 20 cheap applications or 1 .. 6 large expensive shareware-applications)
- What do users need? Usually they need native software, not Odin. Users need: ICQ, Accounting software, graphical editors, drivers, multimedia players, software for syncronization with mobile devices.

- It allows startup Multi Processor / Multi Core machine and feel the power of eComStation true multithreading and multitasking
- Provides Power control for notebooks and desktops (battery indicator, throttling control)
- Control of idle state
- Indicators of system state
If you need new utility which allows easily switch power consumption, please join testing (ASUS and Lenovo thinkpads).
T e s t i n g -- If ACPI.PSD is working fine on your notebook and GetNotify.exe and EmbeddedEvent.exe catch events (brightness, LCD on/off, multimedia keys) then
- Download ACPI Manager, Start it, press OK, exit. Find .dat and .dsl files in the directory of ACPI Manager.
- Collect codes (switch to AC, to battery; Brigthness, Volume, LCD On/off, notebook cover close/open, power button) generated by util\GetNotify.exe, util\EmbeddedEvent.exe
- Find a super button on your notebook. For example Thinkpad is equipped with Access IBM button
- Send us the logs, codes and information about super button.
D e e p t e s t i n g -- If ACPI.PSD is working but events are not catched
then
- You should have experience how to install ACPI.PSD, how to make acpica log, how to send zip files via email.
- Join #ecolabs irc-channel (download configured irc-client)
- Check if your notebook has fixed DSDT table at acpi.sourceforge.net. Inform us if your notebook has fixed DSDT table.
- You should have notebook available in your hands, stay at irc-channel for 2-3 days, 3 hours per day.

OS/2 (eComStation) is alive while people are using and improving the system. The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating system because computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by year. The developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed support service, fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions competitive.
Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA), CMMS, restaurants, etc.
Why should you write the story today?
- You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform.

There are new tasks for standalone developers. It's necessary implement more ACPI tools, update some drivers, create new WorkPlace shell applications and write few overviews.
We should invest ten thousand euros into standalone russian developers during this season.
To attract developers, we are going invite them to eComStation conferences.

Some interesting news:
- Swiss company Netlabs.org updated own site -- www.netlabs.org, opened blog. Wait for official announcements. We are very dissapointed that many projects of this company suffered from Voyager plans (they spend resources to Voyager dreams, not to maintenance of existing projects). On the other side, we are happy that under pressure of users they changed plans and promote Voyager as eComStation extension, not as Linux extension.
- forum.ecomstation.ru is growing bit by bit, there are 800 postings already, seems that the forums become popular.
- Other useful links for eComStation users -- collection of urls
