What is Panorama VESA? Is this a base for a future or a strategic withdrawal?
Panorama VESA is the first project which:
Please download updated Panorama VESA from eComStation beta-zone. New version of the video driver brings better support for Dive applications.
If using Widescreen LCD monitor then pay attention to Widescreen activators created by Robert Lalla for Intel and ATI ATOM video adapters.
New sections at the site: Benchmarks (send us your benchmarks; run sysbench All Video tests and All DIVE tests, save as html; zip to .ziq; subj: Panorama benchmarks;)
Do you have clear examples how to use Dive, VMAN, fullscreen? We are ready publish this information and distribute it among all developers of eComStation applications.

The twenty fifth week of 2007 is dedicated to collection of info about compatible/non-compatible SMP-computers (motherboards and notebooks). Our database contains 330 records only... Major part of the models are not manufactured anymore. Post new reports using the web-form.
If you have posted reports in the past then check them again, add to comments, which switches do you use with ACPI driver? Which parameters did you changed in BIOS setup?

1eCo Labs is a fund aimed to attract new developers to eComStation. We are trying share the income with developers; stimulate the development of new PM-controls and libraries. Moreover, we are going update the portal for developers and enrich it with links and libraries. |

I've just uploaded a package consisting of CUPS 1.2.11 + ESP Ghostscript 8.15.4 + Gutenprint 5.1.2
This combination should allow printing on OS/2 & eComStation with printers that have not previously had drivers for our favourite OS - see the listing for details
The package can be downloaded from SVN site, Also at that site are some directions on how to use the package.
Assuming success with the directions at that site, people could also try Bart's cups port driver in order to be able to print from existing OS/2 applications using CUPS
As usual, feedback is appreciated to either paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info or to the ecups mailing list
Cheers,
Paul Smedley

Developers Workshop 2007 is coming
You are right, the cost of the trip to Amsterdam may be very high for you. 300 EURO.. 500 EURO.. 1000 EURO.. or more.
What is the reason to spend so much money?
1. Read the list of presentations. Are you ready invest the money to learn new technologies and obtain this knowledge?
2. Are you going make a presentation?
The workshop is a good chance to
- share your libraries with other developers;
- learn new eComStation technologies and share the knowledge with other developers;
- present own concept of OS development;
- inform developers which software and drivers should be created;
3. Moreover, the visit of the conference gives you:
- Intercourse
- You are meeting with other users and developers from different countries, different cultures;
- If you are a developer, then you are meeting with your clients. Ask them what do they need;
- Meet the users from your city and region. The conference may help you create Local User Group;
- Get fresh news and secret information while chatting.
- Income
- The visit of the Netherlands is good for your experience, you can see how dutch people are working, why they are so productive.
- You are collecting information what is the trend of OS/2 development. This helps you safe the efforts and don't spend then time to fake goals after return to home.
- If you are a designer then watch the design of dutch houses, clothes, banners
- Improve your english(/deutch/dutch), no need to buy tutorials of english language
- You are mobilizing while preparing for the conference. You are generating more ideas, more code while preparing for D-Day.
- Present your program to sell it
- Vacations
- If you don't have a report then interpret the trip as short summer vacations
- Amsterdam is a good place for shopping

Welcome to USB Tools homepage
There are useful tricks and tips from Robert Lalla there, for example how to improve USB 2.0 read performance (Common USB FAQ).
Read the feedback from testers:
- User 1: With that patch I can improve read speed of large files from a high performance USB stick (Buffalo Firestix "R") from 16MB/s upto 32MB/s on an Intel dualcore system or upto 25MB/s on an older AthlonXP/VIA system. For comparision: Manufacturer says "read 32MB/s" and independent benchmarks from computer magazines on Windows say 25MB/s or 27MB/s. Unfortunately that patch does not help for write speed. I still measure 3.5MB/s, which is way below manufacturer's 27MB/s write specification, or results from other OS.
- User 2: Intel ICH8: I had performance: 3 MB/s, now I have 11.5-12..13
- User 2: nVidia chipset - no changes
- User 2: Intel P5B-VM 10 MB/s up to 30Мб!!!!
Please send us source code, links to USB tools and applications which are using USBCALLS.
Please inform us if you are supporting industrial USB hardware via USBECD driver.

If you are going install Piano Launchpad, keep in mind:
- Piano Launchpad is an addon to eCenter, not its competitor
- All objects on Piano are shadows
Whatsnew? 01.06.2007 1.14 rc2
- ! On some sytems WPS hung during startup, if objects with PNG icons assigned via OS/2 Ini-files exist and RESTARTOBJECTS=STARTUPFOLDERSONLY environment variable is not set.
- * If object dragged from the drawer or Toolbar and dropped to the same drawer (or Toolbar), and drawer is not attached to the object, after a new copy of the object created, original object is deleted.
- * If pressed when Toolbar or a drawer is active, "Toolbar and drawers" article opens, not "General help".
- * In the russian NLS translation of "Undo" changed from "Отмена" to "Отказ".
- * Help fully translated to Russian.
We are going return investments made into Piano Launchpad before the end of 2007 (development, graphics, debugging)

Product Announcement, May 29, 2007
Subject: Support Agreement (12 months) for OpenOffice.org for eComStation and IBM OS/2
Reference SSI Product Announcement, November 4, 2005, same subject
Effective date: May 29, 2007
Effective immediately, Serenity Systems International will be distributing a GA version of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4 to all users who ordered the Support Agreement for OpenOffice.org product. This version has been compiled to run on IBM OS/2 and eComStation as a native application. OpenOffice.org version 1.1.5 will no longer be distributed.
OpenOffice.org for IBM OS/2 and eComStation users has successfully passed all the testing procedures in place for other platforms, including Microsoft Windows(r), Linux, and Solaris(r). This includes a 48 hour automated testing cycle designed to use every dialog and runtimes exceeding 24 consecutive hours during which the application is subjected to constant usage.
Support Agreement users whose 12 month term has expired will be able to download a copy of OpenOffice.org 2.0.4. Current Support Agreement users will also be able to:
- Report issues and open support tickets
- Download fixes, updates, and enhancements
- Test new versions as they become available
Planned updates and enhancements include:
- WPS file class: this class will enhance the file details page, showing the document properties.
- Printing: printing can be enabled by object file icon drag & drop over printer object, from WPS print menu, with drag & drop from OpenOffice.org window to the printer object.
- eComStation or IBM OS/2 look & feel.
- Drag & drop from WPS objects to OpenOffice.org window to allow opening new files, inserting new files, linking existing files.
- NLS language selection for UI using program object properties or by drag & drop of the locale object.
- Java enablement of OpenOffice.org allows scripts and wizards to function properly.
- Update of the code base to the latest available level.
These fixes and enhancements will be delivered to all active Support Agreement users. MSRP for the Support Agreement for OpenOffice.org for OS/2 and eComStation is $49US. MSRP for renewals is $29US. For more information, see http://www.ecomstation.com/openoffice For a list of resellers, see http://www.ecomstation.com/buy
Serenity Systems International will comply with all elements and restrictions associated with the licensing and distribution and use of OpenOffice.org.
