Books for eComStation users

2008-04-25 16:30:56 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

eComStation market is changing, new users need books and tutorials.

eCo Software support service published the 3-rd brochure (russian text):

  • Frequently asked questions. eComStation drivers: ACPI, JFS, Panorama, USB.

(Photo) The books are aimed at users and companies which have many computers and should solve different problems in short time.

The books play important role in the development of eComStation market:

  • we can advertise eComStation via book shops (it's impossible promote eCS via TV, there are banners in the Internet already)
  • this increases the turnover of resellers (extends selection of goods - good addition to eCS box and electronic shareware soft)

How to contribute to ACPI project?

2008-04-13 20:54:47 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

Current version: ACPI 3.08 (ACPI initializes the computer, enables 2-nd core, manages IRQs, control of power)

Do you have troubles with the latest ACPI? and using SAP switch (Acer notebooks)? Please test special build: ACPI13042008.ZIP How to download special build

If you have interest, you can do:

  • check-acpi-compatibility.cmd -- check system, drivers
  • ACPI Info utility (merlin notebook, C)
  • create UNI/SMP benchmarks tools

eCo Labs -- more PM-controls

2008-04-12 21:14:46 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

eCo Software ordered more PM-controls. The goal is to collect more lego-bricks for standalone developers, to unify the User Interface of eComStation.

eCo Software is the largest group of developers on eComStation market, eCo Labs is a "buffer" for new developers.

SNAP Graphics for OS/2 - free registration code & open source

2008-04-09 00:50:03 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [OS2VOICE, Steve Wendt]

The SciTech SNAP Graphics products are no longer being actively developed, and it is planned to have portions of the source code available under an open source license. There will no longer be any future versions of SNAP Graphics available from SciTech.

If you would like to use the latest SciTech release on your computer, it is still available from the SciTech web site

There is also a free registration code you may use to unlock the product, see this file for details

If you are interested in assisting with an open source release, you may subscribe to the OpenSNAP mailing list; please note that this list is not intended for interested end users.

DWS2008 -- it's time to make the decision

2008-04-06 03:03:06 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

Forget about your daily tasks, move to Dusseldorf in the end of the May! Developers Workshop 2008

  • What is successful conference?
Good presentations + hot discussions + and.. *Report* from the conference. Who is ready to play the role of the reporter? Are you ready to get interviews, make photos and collect comments? It's very important to distribute the information about the results of the conference among all users and developers.
  • Do you have a report for other developers? For example,
    • you can make a review of modern technologies which are needed in eCS
    • prepare a review of coming technologies: USB 3.0, IPv6, etc.
    • which new node applications should be created? (so other developers can create plugins for this node applications)
  • Seems that Mensys team is going visit the conference too (Mensys is responsible for the development, assembly and delivery of eComStation). Do you have questions to Mensys?
  • Do you have remote control to make presentations? Central Remote Control supports AirClick

Uniaud updates

2008-04-03 23:10:35 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru ]

Uniaud for HDAudio is released. Current tickets v1.9.2 is now available: http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.2.zip & http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.2-debug.zip

uniaud16.sys from Uniaud 1.1.4RC5 is the recommended version

From the readme:

This build of uniaud32.sys has the ALSA code level based completely on ALSA 1.0.16. Uniaud 1.1.4rc5 is based on ALSA versions ranging from 0.9.x through to 1.0.14. The aim is to provide a version of Uniaud based on the absolute latest ALSA Code - this is a stepping stone on the way to that. This will become Uniaud32 2.0 once we feel that it is stabilised and offers improved support for Audio than Uniaud 1.1.x

Due to the backlevelling of some code - some sound cards that currently work with Uniaud 1.1.4rc5 may not work with this build.

Specifically, due to compilation issues, the following backends are NOT supported:

  • emu10k1 (aka sb live) - linux code loads the firmware from a local drive in later ALSA versions - this isn't working yet on OS/2

As time permits, support for these will be reinstated.

The source is now in SVN and can be browsed at http://svn.netlabs.org/uniaud/browser/GPL/branches/uniaud32-2.0

Changes since 1.9.0 (25th March release)

  • Fix hardware sample rate setting
  • Add ACPI support for determining IRQ (Hopefully fallsback to old code on machines without acpi.psd)
  • Various tidyups
  • Bump version to 1.9.2 (1.9.1 was used for internal test versions)

Thanks to all those testers who have provided feedback on the 1.9.x releases that are based on ALSA 1.0.16!!!

All feedback is greatly appreciated, particularly any improvements or deteriorations compared with Uniaud 1.1.4

ACPI 3.8 is available from BETAZONE.

Active tickets, All tickets.

Useful information in Documentation section

  • How to convince that ACPI.PSD works OK?
  • How to setup SCSI system?
  • Attention! ACPI for eComStation works with 14.104 kernel only! Please check the version of your kernel before installation (bldlevel.exe x:\OS2KRNL)

We are interested to improve the support of HP, Acer, Sony, Samsung, Dell, Toshiba notebooks. Purchase eComStation Software Subscription today (it gives you access to eComStation updates during 12 monthes) and test fresh ACPI. Post bug-reports to the tracker (Do you have troubles with Shutdown? If you have troubles then create a ticket: which method do you use, version of eWorkPlace, ACPI)

Collaboration with other developers: Uniaud team added the support of ACPI to their driver.

2. Panorama video drivers

You need Panorama VESA for old notebooks (2004 and older) and you need it for modern notebooks (2004 and newer)

  • Panorama VESA benchmarks
  • Mensys published "Panorama VESA Heavy" in BETAZONE (it includes IBM GRADD, so you can install Panorama VESA over VGA)

Collaboration with other developers:

  • Robert Lalla updated widescreen activator (March 2008), now it supports ASUS EeePC (v0.70 contains additional support for Intel G3x/P3x memory controller; v.0.72 update contains support for Intel GM965/PM965 chipset which had already support before, but was quietly modified by Intel without renaming it)
  • Doodle is working on SDL/2 optimized for Panorama VESA
  • Send us names of tested adapters

3. Multimedia

  • Talki-clocki -- talking clock There are russian voices, send us german/english/dutch voices

How to support eCo Software? Buy NeoWPS, post bug-reports.

8. eCo Software support service

9. Books

eCo Software support service should process more customers, we started the sellings of books:

  • Frequently asked questions. eComStation installation. (russian text)
  • Frequently asked questions. eComStation usage and optimization. (russian text)
  • (more books are "under construction")

10. DevCon

eComStation is needed if there are useful well-designed applications. The developers should release 20-50 medium applications to enforce eComStation in 2008. To simplify the development of new applications eCo Software is going invest into the development of new PM-controls, templates and libraries.

eCo Labs - more urgent tasks

2008-03-30 03:02:09 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

eCo Labs is a fund to attract new developers to eComStation. We are trying to share the income with standalone developers; stimulate the development of new PM-controls and libraries. Moreover, we are going update the portal for developers and enrich it with links and libraries.

We have published more than 30 tasks aimed to improve the quality of eCo Software products and accumulate new templates.

eComStation brand

2008-03-29 02:04:43 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

If you have read the history of eComStation (russian text), then view the photos of eComStation boxes and CDs, visit the site of eComStation logos and artwork

Inform us, which company is able to print eComStation logo on mini-mouses for notebooks in the Netherlands (the information is actual for us till the end of April, 2008)

Most popular applications for eComStation

2008-03-27 20:49:01 -- Eugene Gorbunoff [ecomstation.ru]

Question 1: What do new users ask when come to eComStation world? "Where can I download a program which allows me .."

Question 2: How to support the developer with the promotion of his product?

To solve this problems we have created web-page "Software for eComStation" aimed to collect links to popular software.

Rules:

  • Send us name of program, homepage url, links to reviews (IMPORTANT!). The presence of link to review guarantess that the program will be added to the list.
  • We guarantee that all messages will be processed, no guarantees that all applications will be added to the list.
  • (All commercial, shareware applications are included (except drivers)

Developers workshop 2008 - what is your plan?

2008-03-24 20:21:44 -- Eugene Gorbunoff

The developers of eComStation and OS/2 software travel during the year often.

This years workshop will be held from May 17 to 18th, 2008 in the City Youth Hostel of the city of Duesseldorf, Germany (this is the center of North Rhine-Westphalia - the most populated area, Germany's industrial heartland). Developers Workshop 2008 homepage

Are you ready for the conference?

  • What is better? Show dry slides or demonstrate your libraries and tools in live mode?
  • Are you going chat with other developers? Did you invited them to the meeting?
  • Which new libraries are you going to request from eComStation developers?

Seems that Developer Workshops keep the traditions of IBM workshops (remember IBM OS/2 Workshops). Full list of eComStation and OS/2 Warp conferences
