Dell Dimension 3100 desktop

Mark: Average

After a lot of tinkering I got it to work. The funny thing is that the installation CD works perfectly and gives me full USB support. But when the system rebooted from hard disk the boot stopped just after the ethernet card wa loaded. I removed all the network support and nothing changed. I went through a lot of pain to find that if I removed the usb 2.0 support the problem disappeared. But then the usb system was not fully working. So (after many different tests)I copied the order of loading of basedev drivers from Z:config.sys (installation ram disk) adding also the extra drivers like the minivdm and the miracle happened! Now Having spent on it a couple of days already I am not going to spend more time to pinpoint the problem. Probably is the order of loading of the usb drivers. This is the working sequence

BASEDEV=PMVDMCC.SYS /v
BASEDEV=IBMKBD.SYS
BASEDEV=CHKDSK.SYS
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS /v
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS /v
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS /v
BASEDEV=USBUHCD.SYS /v
BASEDEV=USBEHCD.SYS /v
BASEDEV=USBD.SYS
BASEDEV=USBHID.SYS
BASEDEV=USBMSD.ADD /REMOVABLES:2 /FLOPPIES:1
BASEDEV=USBCDROM.ADD /CDS:0
BASEDEV=IBM1FLPY.ADD
BASEDEV=DaniS506.ADD /v
rem BASEDEV=DUMMY.ADD
rem BASEDEV=DUMMY.ADD
rem BASEDEV=MEMDISK.ADD
BASEDEV=DaniATAP.FLT
BASEDEV=OS2DASD.DMD
BASEDEV=OS2LVM.DMD

BASEDEV=TIMER0.SYS
BASEDEV=PRINT01.SYS
BASEDEV=CADH.SYS
BASEDEV=LOCKCDR.FLT /Q /D
BASEDEV=OS2ASPI.DMD /ALL

The main problem is that in the system I am using a 8 port serial card "VScom 800L" 00=14D2 02=8080 uart@14 uart@18 uart@20 uart@+8 + + + + and the com.sys driver does not recognise the card if any usb driver is loaded...

On an older PC the same card was recognised all-right as long as the on board serial port were enabled. On this pc, once the usb support has been removed, the driver seems to work only to crash as soon as the com ports are accessed.

SIO2K 2.03 works perfectly, but I cannot register it anymore, since the author has disappeared. Two days of work down the drain not to count the 400? for the PC and the 200? for the ECS license. SIOECS does not work.... and I know is very buggy anyway. If anyone can help me I will appreaciate enormously. I posted all this so it might be of help to somebody as well.

Hello Filippo,

I have the same problem with registering SIO2K and I very much needed help.

I read that you solved the problem using a good soul with the license code.

SIO2K For me it is really vital and much please help.

Thank you very much
