Xerox Phaser 8500N

Mark: Good

This printer works OK with the Xerox 8400 driver in the latest pscript.drv but using the NT xrx8500n.ppd file from the install CD to import support for this model to the 30.822 release (Note: the latest pscript.drv doesn't work with this process. See the pscript package readme file for directions on how to do this.) able to get 600DPI and better print quality (but not photo quality, wish now I had gotten the 8550).

Input tray selection doesn't work. Also when I print from Acrobat 5.1 or OpenOffice.org 1.1.5 all I get is pages of raw postscript so it appears to not work with odinized apps. Printer setup can be done on the printer or via anyweb browser and network configuration (ip address) can be set on the printer itself. SLPR works well with this printer. Haven't tried PCL driver yet, but this printer supports PCL5c as well as Postscript3.

Just an update:

Using the laserjet driver (I selected the HP C Laserjet 8500 model) the print quality is better and the odinized apps like Acrobat 5.1 and OOO 1.1.5 print fine as well. Input tray selection still not working (printer seems to always override) and still not photo quality though as the images are a bit grainy, but this is a great printer for text and graphics.
