Promise Ultra100 TX2

Mark: Good

One of many 66/100/133 IDE/ATA-controllers. Chip from Promise is used on some motherboards as soft-RAID controller. In this case chip is used in PCI-card. Some thoughts for buyers:

1. Buy ONLY TX(2) - versions. There were non-TX 66/100 cards - they had problems with ATAPI-devices in DMA-modes.
2. Don't buy cards with RAID. This soft-RAID cannot be used under OS/2, but costs additional money.

Installation: under OS/2 it works good with DaniS506 (thanks to Daniella).

Moreover, DOS-support is declared (through BIOS). It works, but I didn't heavily tested it (2 HDD and no CD's - HDD with FAT was seen).

Now bugs:

1. There were problems with CD-ROM - it didn't work in (U)DMA-mode. Daniella noted in readme: Promise Ultra - PIO only :((, but in newer versions there are enhancements for Ultra TX/TX2. Now my CD-ROM works in DMA.
2. Ultra100-controllers with BIOS version prior to 2.10.0.14 have bug with detecting stand-alone ATAPI-devices. Moreover, this affects detecting other devices on all other controllers (due to BIOS extensions are inited before motherboard BIOS). Initially I added a HDD to controller with CD-ROM (old 0.25Gb), later I flashed BIOS (can be taken on Promise's site) to version 2.20.0.14 and now everything is Ok.

I didn't tried to boot from HDD, connected to this card.
